Lithic Analyses

The Lithics Lab is equipped with two stereomicroscopes and one low power microscopes to conduct cutting edge functional analyses of stone tools (use-wear and residue analyses).

 

In addition, there are large tables, lamps and magnifying glasses that can be used for technological and attribute analyses of lithic artefacts.

 

The laboratory is open to students and researchers from UP Diliman and from other institutions. They are welcome to use the equipment to conduct their research upon request.

 

Experimental archaeology

The Lithics Lab also hosts a growing reference collection of experimental tools used to process different materials such as palm, bamboo, rattan, fern, wood, banana tree, bone, animal skin, shell, …

Researchers and students can have access to this lithotheque upon request. 

 

The laboratory also encompasses a growing variety of rocks and materials such as wood, shells, etc. that are being used in the frame of experiments.   

 

Ethnoarcheology           

The Lithics Lab is also active in ethnoarchaeology and reference books can be found on its shelfs. Students and researchers are welcome to access them for reading upon request and to come for a chat about ethnoarchaeological projects.
