Abstract
Various historical accounts celebrate the role of native dogs in the life of our ancestors. These were undeniably the present-day Aspins, mongrelized due to exposure to foreign breeds introduced by the colonizers. Are they related to the ancient dogs unearthed in the Philippines whose earliest date is nearly 4,000 years? A review of the recent developments in archaeological and phylogenetic studies can shed light on this question.
