Abstract
Archaeological contexts cannot be recreated once excavated. This destructive nature of archaeological practice underscores the significance of digital repositories for archaeological data to ensure its long-term preservation for future research and educational purposes. Despite being a repository for archaeological materials since its founding in 1995, The University of the Philippines – School of Archaeology (UPSA) has no existing digital database. Thus, as part of the institution’s efforts for cultural heritage management, this project aims to create a digital database for the currently available archaeological data within UPSA. The scope of this work will encompass the digitization of physical documents and archaeological records, managing of on-site artifacts, and the development of a basic database structure to cater to the needs of students and researchers within UPSA. The expected output is a local digital repository which will enable search and comparative analysis for recorded archaeological sites and artifacts across the Philippine archipelago, provide ease in locating artifacts, records, and documents within the vicinity of UPSA, and open possibilities for public engagement. It is hoped that this contribution will significantly impact the growth of archaeological research in the Philippines as well as foster efforts in public archaeology.
