See you for the next Binalot Talk on 22nd March, 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Eleanor Marie S. Lim of the University of the Philippines Diliman School of Archaeology will give a talk entitled 'Eat, Move, Die Program: Long-Term Dynamics and Interactions between Health, Environment, and Society through Diet, Mobility, and Disease in the Philippines'.
Abstract
The proposed program with two project components seeks to assess disease, diet, and mobility in ancient Philippines. The first project will contribute to palaeopathology by demonstrating the inherent value of archaeological data as relevant sources of information on our current state of health and vulnerabilities to diseases. The second project will investigate palaeodiet and prehistoric mobility using stable isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen from archaeological human and faunal skeletal remains. This will also build a collaborative, open-access isotopic database for both archaeological and modern samples from the Philippines by identifying the areas where these data are already available as its foundation. This program addressing the past dynamics and interactions between health, environment, and society through disease, diet, and mobility will provide long-term perspectives on the dynamics and interactions of science and technology with contemporary culture and society.
